Uganda 🇺🇬 2 Congo 🇨🇬 0
Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda Cranes built on their fine start to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers by hammering Republic of Congo 2-0 at newly rebuilt Mandela National stadium Monday night. Goals came in via Aziizi Kayondo in the 21st before Jude Ssemugabi sealed it late in the game.
Coach Paul Put’s boys now go top of Group K in the 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. They ended Congo Brazzaville’s brief stay top of Group K after a 1-0 victory over South Sudan a few days ago, while Uganda Cranes earlier also managed a 2-2 draw against South Africa in Johannesburg on Saturday.
Paul Put had said before kick-off that, “It is always very important to try and win all your home matches and then go away and battle for some points too.”
The newly launched Uganda Cranes jersey was used for the second time with goalkeeper Isima Watenga donning red and black while the outfield players wore yellow with stripes.

Absolutely HUGE result today. We were unfortunate last week on Friday but picked a vital point. We never gave up hopefully this continues and we can build on this momentum and get better as the team starts to gel! 💯 🇺🇬 pic.twitter.com/ID0byNrnDm
