Over 1000 expected to participate in 3rd EAC congress of accountants

ACCA has offered $5000 to help in organising the East African congress of accountants that will mainly be held online.

Kampala, Uganda |  JULIUS BUSINGE  | Uganda will this month host the 3rd East African Congress of Accountants. The congress was supposed to be held last year in March but was suspended due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions on gatherings. 

“We have now assessed and it is possible to host the congress,” said John Bosco Ntangaare, the director in charge of education at the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CPA) of Uganda, during a press conference held on April 08 in Kampala. 

The Kampala congress at Hotel Africana April 14-16 is expected to host a total of 1,000 participants, mainly virtually, from the East African region. Ntangaare said, the conference will be officially opened by Matia Kasaija, the Minister of Finance Planning and Economic Development. 

On top of promoting networking, several speakers at the congress will generally discuss how accountants can/are contributing to the integration process of the EAC bloc. 

The first congress took place in Arusha Tanzania in 2016; the second was hosted in Kenya in 2018. 

A few participants will attend physically at Hotel Africana, and majority will do virtually, according to Ntangaare. 

The theme for the meeting is; Integration for accelerated economic growth and development. 

Ntangaare said, participants will have a full day starting at 9am up to 5pm (EAC time). The second and third day, will have sessions from 9am to 4pm. 

The sponsors of the congress are Ministry of Finance Uganda, National Social Security Fund, ICPAR Uganda and others. 

ICPAU is hosting the congress in conjunction with the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA), Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Rwanda (ICPAR) and Ordre Des Professionnels Comptables Du Burundi (OPC).
