Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The 2024/2025 FUFA Big League season will commence next month, following a three-month break.

The new campaign will see 15 clubs competing over the next year for the league title and three coveted promotion spots to Uganda’s top-tier competition, the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL).

Teams failing to secure promotion will battle to avoid relegation to regional leagues and aim to stay in the Big League. According to the fixtures released by FUFA’s competition department, the opening matches on October 6th will include encounters between Blacks Power FC and Arua Hill SC.

Other fixtures feature Kataka FC taking on Busoga United FC, while Kaaro Karungi FC will face Gaddafi FC. Kigezi Home Boyz FC will meet Ntugasaze FC, Kiyinda Boys FC will play MYDA FC, and Onduparaka FC will clash with Paidha Black Angels SC.

Police FC, the defending champions, clinched the 2023/24 Big League title by defeating Kataka FC on the final day of the season. They finished with 56 points, three ahead of Lugazi FC, who secured second place with a 2-0 victory over Jinja North United FC.

Police FC, Lugazi FC, and Mbale Heroes FC are the three teams that earned promotion to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, while Kyetume FC, Young Elephants FC, Jinja North United FC, and Ndejje University FC were relegated to their respective regional leagues.

Meanwhile, FUFA has also confirmed that the 2024/2025 FUFA Women Super League fixtures will begin this Friday, September 27th. Kampala Queens are set to take on Wakiso Giants in the opening match, with defending champions Kawempe Muslim facing Rhines SS later in the weekend.

The league returns, just a month since FUFA signed a four-year partnership with Finance Trust Bank, which will see the bank invest 2 billion Shillings into women’s football. Under the terms of the partnership, Finance Trust Bank acquired the title rights for Uganda’s two top women’s leagues, the Super League and the Elite League.
