251 police officers complete anti-terrorism training course

Katakwi, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | 251 police officers have been passed out after completing four months of training for counter Terrorism induction course at Olilim Police Training School in Katakwi district.

The officers were equipped with skills in crowd management, counter-terrorism strategies, crime detection, and swift response to neutralize crimes. The training also focused on operational tactics.

James Ocaya, the Director of Research and Planning Uganda Police who officiated the pass-out ceremony said that the officers have been fully trained on how to combat terrorism and capacity building to detect and respond to any crimes that threaten the country.

Ocaya said that the officers have been equipped with knowledge of quick responses to the threats and can neutralize the crimes. He added that the course has also impacted the professionalism among the officers.

Ocaya noted that they intend to establish police stations in every sub-county to enhance the quick response in case of any criminal threats.   He observed that there are over 2,000 sub-counties in the entire country and currently only 1,500 have police stations.

Jasper Oloka, the commandant at Olilim Police Training School said that the trainees have been on 16 weeks of basic Counter Terrorism training.

Oloka encouraged trainees to remain healthy to perform their duties well. He added that trainees are now ideologically clear and ready to protect the lives and properties of Ugandans.
