Jinja, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Jinja Chief Magistrate Jude Muwone, on Thursday remanded 46 youths over illegal possession of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

The accused persons who have been remanded to Kirinya prisons are scheduled to reappear before the Chief Magistrates court in a series of three groups from the 22-29 November, to 06th December 2022, so as to avoid crowding the court room.

It is alleged that on the 06th, 07th and 08th November respectively, the accused persons were found in possession of four kilograms of unprocessed narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

It is further alleged that the narcotics had been packed in small papers and polythene bags to ease illegal sale within their different markets.

The accused are among dozens of suspects arrested in a joint security crackdown aimed at cleaning up the criminal black spot areas of Bugembe and Mafubira within Jinja city.

The Kiira regional police spokesperson, James Mubi told journalists earlier today on how preliminary investigations indicate that several youths are profiteering at the expense of selling narcotic drugs to school going children within their communities.

Mubi adds that, police is liaising with volunteer counselors to ensure that intoxicated students are rehabilitated and saved from addictive conditions.
