The Vice Chancellor Prof. John Ddumba-Ssentamu says Makerere University has the highest number of staff with PhDs in Uganda.
He adds that every Senior Lecturer at Makerere University must have a PhD and currently, we have over 500 members of staff with PhDs adding that the number of PhD holders in Makerere has steadily increased across all Colleges.
Prof. Ddumba-Ssentamu says the initiative is to develop a strategic plan that provides a direction to reposition Makerere into a research driven university where research, teaching and learning are mutually reinforcing.
He says that the University has also elevated the School of Graduate Studies into a Directorate of Research and Graduate Training, which provides the required structures to effectively provide leadership in research and innovations in the University.
