Pader, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Eight districts in Acholi sub region will hold a joint council meeting to honor Maj. Gen. Paul Lokech, the former Deputy Inspector General of Police.

The joint session scheduled for Thursday at Paipir primary school in Pader town council aims at recognizing the achievements of Gen. Lokech towards peace in Uganda and Africa. The meeting will attract all the district speakers, councilors, and executive committee members from the respective district councils in the region.

Gen Lokech died on Saturday morning from his home in Kitikifumba in Kira division, Wakiso district due to a blood clot that blocked his breathing according to a post-mortem report issued by the police on Sunday.

Wellborn Ottober, Pader district council speaker says that during the joint council meeting, speakers from the eight district councils will have the opportunity to eulogize the deceased.

He says the move to have the joint council meeting arose from decisions undertaken by all council speakers in the region to honor Gen Lokech’s hard work that contributed to peace.

Justine Ocen, the district vice chairperson Pader says during the joint council session, the executive committees from the various districts will come out with their proposals that will be adopted for implementation in memory of Gen. Lokech.

He says proposals from Pader district executive committee include naming a district hospital once established in the district in his name and erection of his effigy at the hospital. He notes that the district council had also in 2015 proposed to name a road within Pader town council after Gen Lokech which will now wait to be implemented.

Pader LC V chairperson, Rtd. Col Fearless Obwoya Oyat said the decision to hold a joint council meeting for the eight districts is to allow district councilors to pay their last respects to Gen Lokech for his great work.

According to a tentative burial arrangement issued by the Uganda Police Force, Gen Lokech’s remains will be transported to his home at Kitikifumba in Kira division, for prayers and viewing on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the body will leave Kampala for his ancestral home in Paipir village in Pader district. Gen Lokech’s remains will later be buried on Friday at his village in Paipir in Pader town council.
