Africa Now Summit 2019 to bring the leadership conversation home

Uganda’s PM Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has featured in a previous Africa Now session. He is expected for this week’s as well.

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT| This week’s Africa Now Summit 2019 at the Commonwealth Hotel in Munyonyo is set to create a space where Africans can direct the conversation about the continent’s past, status quo and its future through mainstream platforms.

The conference happening Tuesday March 12th and Wednesday 13th, is organized by the Africa Strategic Leadership Centre and aims to harness the interminable energy of the African youth in forging a secure, integrated and growing Africa.

In addition, the Africa Now Summit seeks to build effective Youth-Business Alliances, which are critical for growing economies, generating opportunities to address youth employment, building and sustaining innovation and knowledge-based economies and building the future of Africa, now!

Awel Uwihanganye, Associate Director at the Africa Strategic Leadership Centre says that we’re at a point in time where Africans should be more assertive towards owning the African narrative.

“The onus to shape Africa’s identity and to define the continent’s outlook – which is how the rest of the world sees Africa – is on us Africans,” he added in an interview on NBS’ Morning Breeze last week.

Uwihanganye further encouraged African writers to write and publish more content that tells the African story and feeds into the overall objective of think tanks such as the Africa Strategic Leadership Centre.

The main objective of the Africa Now Conference is to contribute effectively to the broader conversation around economic transformation, investment and trade growth as well as employment in Africa. This dialogue has for a long time happened outside of Africa and while it’s a good for the continent to feature on agendas elsewhere, it is much more important for such conversations to happen right here at home.

This High- Level meeting, co- chaired by  Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to capture a diversity of ideas and views of the participants through presentations, interactive plenary sessions and sideline meetings that reflect the key thematic areas of conference. These sessions will be moderated by the likes of BBC’S Allan Kasujja, Professor Eddy Maloka – CEO APRM Secretariat, Irene Ikomu –a Ugandan Lawyer & Strategy Consultant, Ambassador Adonia Ayebare, Representative to Uganda Mission to the United Nations, Her Excellency Rosa Malango – Coordinator One UN, Uganda and Dr. Nansonzi Muwanga – Member, Board of Directors Africa Strategic Leadership Centre.
