Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Entebbe International Airport has received a new airline career. Air Arabia is set to start operating direct commercial passenger flights from Sharjah International Airport in the UAE to Entebbe International Airport thrice a week.
The 169-passenger aircraft will be making flights on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday. The company made its maiden flight on Sunday, October 10th, 2021. Ibrahim Abdisalam, the General Sales Agent (GSA) Air Arabia in Uganda, says that the company is set to boost its relationship in the country and market opportunities for Ugandans travelling to and from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
“After a long study, we managed to successfully start our flights to Entebbe- with about 80 passengers. The return flight was fully booked. We hope all the next flights will be fully booked,” he explained. Fred Byamukama, the State Minister for Works, says that the introduction of the airline will boost business for Ugandans.
Byamukama said the ongoing expansion of the airport will enable the increasing number of airlines operating in Uganda to conduct business smoothly and increase mass exportation of Uganda’s products.
Ayub Sooma, the Director of Airports and Aviation Security at Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), said the boost in the number of airline operators will enable the country to develop an air transport sector network that will connect Uganda to major cities in the world.
