Entebbe’s low passenger numbers
According to CAA data, international passengers recorded at Entebbe International Airport have been increasing on an annual basis. For instance in 2019, the airport handled 1.98million passengers compared to 1.84million in 2018 and 1.65million in 2017.
However, in 2020, passenger traffic at the airport is expected to sharply drop as a result of COVID-19. For instance, in January and February, the average number passenger traffic was 140, 000 per month but this further reduced in March to 83, 000. In April it was down to 987 (because of evacuation/repatriation or emergency flights) while in May they were 1,300.
There was a slight increase in the passenger arrivals numbering to more than 1000 during the months of June, July and August as more Ugandans were returning home.
