Mbarara, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Archbishop of Mbarara, Lambert Beinomugisha has ordained eight priests at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Nyamitanga Cathedral.
Archbishop Beinomugisha also ordained eleven deacons in a scientific ceremony that was attended by only parents of the ordained clergymen and some government officials.
The ordained priests are Peter Arinaitwe from Luganzi parish, Nicholus Asingwire from Butare parish, Allan Gumisiriza from Kitabi parish in Bushenyi district, Genensio Nuwagira from Ryakahimbi center and Benjamin Wise, from Biharwe center in Mbarara city, Frank Tumwesigye from Rushooka Parish Mbarara, Didas Byarugaba from Kigarama Parish, Paul Agric Gumanoshaba from Bubaare Parish in Mbarara.
The ordination that was originally scheduled for 17th July was suspended after places of worship were closed following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Archbishop Beinomugisha asked the ordained priests, deacons to be rooted in faith, follow the Catholic Church norms and avoid being suspected of engaging in wrongdoing but commit to preaching the gospel of peace, love and repentance.
Beinomugisha asked them not to lose hope but to always read the word of God and listen to the holy spirit’s guidance to portray their belief to the Christians that they are to serve.
The ordained were awarded certificates of completion and seven of them were given their appointment letters to go and serve in their respective parishes within the Archdiocese of Mbarara, while Fr. Paul Agric Gumanoshaba, who is a member of the Society of the Missionaries of Africa was sent to serve in Rwanda by their head Rev. Fr. Vincent Lubega.
Fr. Frank Tumwesigye who was given the chance to speak on behalf of others praised God for the long journey and blessed the Archbishop and the Christians present.
Dinaves Kyogabirwe, a Christian, congratulated the priests on their ordination despite the current restrictions on large public gatherings and the lockdown on churches.
