Archbishop Kazimba calls for establishment of churches in military precincts

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Stephen Kazimba Mugalu has tasked the Defense ministry to approve the request by religious institutions to construct places of worship in different military installations across the country.

Speaking at a thanksgiving service at the National defense college in Naminya ward, Njeru municipality, Buikwe district on Sunday, Archbishop Mugalu argued that soldiers handle a very important task of ensuring security across borders, which keeps them occupied most of the time and starting places of worship will ease their efforts of fellowshipping with God.

Citing the biblical Col. Conerious in the book of Acts 10, who spearheaded the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ during his time, Mugalu argued that members of the armed forces too in Uganda can actively profess their faith in the different areas of deployment and effectively execute their mandate.

Mugalu also challenged soldiers and all other members of the armed forces to use their faith in God as the basis of leading corrupt free lives even when exposed to undetectable money fraud schemes in the course of their careers.

He argues that some elements in the armed forces are engaged in highly demanding civilian affairs like high capital-intensive businesses, which require several sources of income and could lead them into temptation.

Mugalu further warned soldiers against engaging in multiple sexual affairs, saying that such acts will disorganize them from executing their mandate, which over time weakens the army and exposes it to the enemy forces.

The Defense Ministry Undersecretary, Edith Buturo, says that processes of enabling soldiers to easily access desirable places of worship in their areas of deployment are underway.
