Kapchorwa, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) has confirmed the date for the National Mountain Running Championships in Kapchorwa.
According to Benjamin Njia, the Uganda Athletics Federation National coach and vice president of technical, the championships will be held on October 1st. He says that the championship is meant to select the best athletes who will represent Uganda in World Mountain Championships on November 3rd in Thailand.
Njia says team managers are required to register their athletes for UAF clearance to participate in the competition in adherence to UAF policies. In this year’s championships, over 500 runners are expected to register for the 2022 edition following the track and field off-season.
The senior category will face a 12km uphill trail and 8km for the junior.
Athletes are however in their final preparations ahead of the competitions.
Peter Chelangat, coach Rosa Associate Management agency says the training schedules that the athletes have been following were aimed at registering a great performance at the event.
“Our training sessions were panned and aimed at the event,” said Chelangat.
