Bail granted in Makerere assault case

Kampala, Uganda | GODFREY SSALI | Buganda road court has granted bail to a Makerere University Senior Administrator accused of  indecent assault against a student.

Buganda Road Chief Magistrates James Eremye Mawanda granted Edward Kisuze bail on Friday after being  convinced that he will not jump bail and interfere with prosecution witnesses.

He was ordered to pay sh2 million and his sureties to sign a non-cash bond of sh10m to ensure that Kisuze returns to court for trial on May 28.

Kisuze was arrested and charged last month, after his victim recorded and uploaded a video on social media, showing them in room 507 at the University Senate Building, attempting to have sexual intercourse.

Kisuze is facing charges of attempted  rape.

Prosecution says Kisuze a Senior  Registrar at the college of Computing and Information Science at Makerere University attempted to rape or  indecently assaulted Rachael Njeri Njoroge, a former student on April 13, 2018.

He has since denied the allegation.
