Uganda opposition leader Dr .Kiiza Besigye on Tuesday reported to Kampala High Court’s Criminal Division Registry as required in his bail for the treason charges that are still pending before the Nakawa Magistrates Court.

He appeared before deputy registrar Mary Khainza who extended his bail to November 16, 2016 as on 14th he will be in Kabale Magistrates Court for another case.

Besigye protested that the six months within which DPP is supposed to have completed investigations have lapsed but his file has not reached the High Court by way of committing him to start trial.

The former FDC presidential candidate  later addressed a press conference where he vowed to continue defying plans by the police to have him held at his residence in Kasangati. He revealed that even on Monday night he resisted in vain the decision by the police to return him home  after his arrest.

On Monday, Dr Besigye and other opposition leaders were arrested after a scuffle at his residence as he tried to push away the police to allow other opposition leaders to meet him.

Later the police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kawesi said under a new arrangement, demonstrators will be arrested before causing chaos and that Dr Besigye was not an exception.

The police say the strategy includes restricting him to his residence and monitoring carefully his movements. Dr Besigye says that he will not relent but will continue fighting until his “home is liberated” emphasizing that the act of the police is illegal.
