Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Mukono Diocesan Bishop James William Ssebaggala has appealed to Christians to stop pushing the nomination committee which was tasked with a role to identify a new head of the diocese.

Bishop Ssebaggala noted that several Christians keep bothering members of the nomination committee to reveal the names of clergy selected and forwarded to the House of Bishops for the final choice of the Bishop who will take over from him.

The selection exercise for the new Bishop of Mukono Diocese started in March after the Diocesan Synod appointed a team of 15 members headed by the Diocesan Chancellor Grace Nagitta, to identify the potential candidates. It was hoped that the exercise would end before the end of the year.

However, Bishop Ssebaggala appealed to Christians to wait until mid-January, the time scheduled for the House of Bishops to make the final selection and the declaration shall be made by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda. This was part of his Christmas message delivered at the Diocesan headquarters in Mukono.

During his recent visit to Mukono, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu confirmed that the Diocesan Constitution was completed to pave way for the final steps of selecting the Bishop. After the selection process, the new Bishop is expected to be consecrated on February 26, 2023.

Samuel Kigozi, a Christian at St. Phillips and Andrews Cathedral says they are patiently waiting but at the same time anxious about knowing the chosen one by God.

Bishop Ssebaggala was consecrated as the fourth Bishop of Mukono Diocese on September 19, 2010, replacing Eria Paul Luzinda.
