Boss on the run following murder of barmaid

Busia, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The former Western division LC 3 chairperson candidate in Busia municipality, Franco Mukama is on the run for allegedly murdering his barmaid, 26-year-old Monica Apio. It is alleged that Apio was killed in room number six at Valley bar and lodge along Tororo road in Solo A village, Western division on Tuesday at 1:00am.

Moses Johnson Mugwe, the Bukedi South Police spokesperson says that they received a tip off about Apio’s death from one the patrons who had gone to drink in the bar. He however says that by the time officers arrived at the scene, Mukama and his employees had already fled into hiding.

Mugwe says that the few people who were in the bar were drunk and could not tell the police what exactly happened. He says that they have launched a manhunt for Mukama and his employees to explain what happened and record their statement.

This is the third case of murder being registered in this area this month. Mugwe appealed to residents to refrain from unlawful acts that may result in the loss of life.

Jevans Makokha, a neighbor to the bar says that they heard an alarm from a woman amidst loud noise from the bar and could not tell what was going on. He says that they were surprised to learn that Apio had been killed.

Catherine Nangira, a resident says that they want police to restrict the operating hours for bars to avoid such incidents. Police have closed the bar as they hunt for Mukama and other workers. The deceased’s body is lying at Busia health center IV pending postmortem.
