Buikwe north MP quits NRM party after losing party flag to Diana Nyago

Paul Musoke, Njeru Municipality MP

Mukono, Uganda |  THE INDEPENDENT |   The Buikwe North (Njeru Municipality) Member of Parliament Paul Musoke has abandoned the National Resistance Movement-NRM after losing for the second time in the party elections yesterday.

NRM conducted fresh elections for 36 electoral areas yesterday following petitions from contestants who said they were unfairly defeated. The parliamentary seat for Njeru municipality was among those where losers disputed the results of the recent party primaries.

The results were directly sent to the party head offices for tallying where Diana Hope Nyago has been declared a winner this morning compelling Musoke to denounce the party and renounce his membership to the National Resistance Movement.

Musoke says the party has lacked transparency in the two elections it has conducted. Nyago has received 7, 305 votes, 6, 305 Musoke followed by Kabuye who has received 5,973.

Musoke has noted that all indicators by yesterday showed that he was leading the race but has been surprised reaching at party offices when Dr Tang Odoi has instead declared his opponent.

He has now vowed to stand as an independent candidate in the forthcoming general elections and expects to be nominated tomorrow.

But Dr Tanga Odoi has laughed off Musoke’s accusations, wondering why it takes long for politicians like Musoke to acknowledge that where there is a competition there are always losers and winners.

Odoi advises Musoke to respect the voice of the people from Njeru and step down in support of his colleague.

During the general party primaries, Musoke had received 4475 votes, Badru Kabuye 5655 and Diana Nyago 5594.

After Nyago petitioning the party electoral commission, she was instead declared the winner by Dr Tanga with different results of 5, 208, Kabuye 3, 128 and Musoke 4, 252.

This forced Musoke and Kabuye to also petition the commission again calling fresh elections in the contested electoral areas.

Meanwhile, Nyago who is overwhelmed by joy has appreciated the people of Njeru saying that struggle has just started calling upon his opponents to concede the defeat and support her win the general election for the good of the party.
