Bunyoro Kitara Diocese needs shs400million for consecration of Bishop

Hoima, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Bunyoro Kitara Diocese is currently hunting for 400 million Shillings for the consecration of the new Bishop-elect.

Rev. Canon Jacob Ateirweho will be consecrated and enthroned as the 6th Bishop of the Diocese on 11th August 2024 at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Hoima City.

Rev.Canon Ateirweho was elected by the House of Bishops sitting at Daniel Uganda Mission Leadership Centre in Lweza on April 17th, 2024.

Various sub-committees have been instituted both in Bunyoro and Kampala to spearhead the exercise.

The Committee in the Bunyoro Kitara Diocese is being chaired by Rev. Erick Twine, the Dean of St. Peters Cathedral while the Kampala committee is being chaired by David Karubanga, the Kigorobya County Member of Parliament.

Rev. Twine says that the funds are meant to facilitate various activities and they have so far, managed to raise 60 million Shillings.

He says the money will be raised through donations and contributions from well-wishers and friends of the diocese, appealing to Christians to generously contribute towards the function.

Rev. Canon Ateirweho replaces Bishop Samuel Kahuma who has clocked the mandatory retirement age of 65 years.

Ateirweho was born on August 24th, 1968 in Hoima Hospital in Hoima City.

He accepted Jesus Christ as his savior on April 5th, 1991, and was ordained Deacon on February 5th, 2006.

Ateirweho who was priested on July 23rd, 2006 is also a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in divinity from Uganda Christian University.

He is currently the vicar of All Saints church, Hoima town parish in the Diocese of Bunyoro Kitara.
