Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje has suspended the Bunyoro-Tooro regional Khadi, Sheikh Muhammad Irumba from office citing his failure to unite Muslims.
“You are hereby suspended from the Office of the Regional Khadi Bunyoro/Tooro Muslim Region with immediate effect,” reads the May 27th, 2021 letter, seen by URN.
Adding that,” You are requested to handover all the office equipment including the vehicle….”.
In his letter, Sheikh Mubaje notes that the Muslim Regional Administration was established to bridge the gap between the headquarters and lower administrative structure, more especially to unite Muslims, a thing Sheikh Irumba has failed to do.
“You have failed to unite the Muslims of Bunyoro/Tooro Muslim region, which has disrupted the smooth running of council work,” reads the letter.
Sheikh Irumba’s suspension comes a few months after he was accused of illegally mortgaging commercial property belonging to Uganda Muslim Supreme Council-UMSC in Hoima district in exchange for fuel worth millions of Shillings.
He failed to pay the creditor prompting him to secure a court order to attach and sell the council property to recover their monies. The UMSC headquarters petitioned the Hoima magistrate’s court challenging the orders on grounds that Sheikh Irumba acted without authorization.
Sheikh Irumba agreed that he entered the fuel deal with the creditor in his individual capacity and consented to pay off the debt.
