Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | There was chaos at Namayiba bus park on Tuesday after drivers of different bus companies protested a move by the YY bus company to conduct business in the park.
On Monday, YY bus company relocated to their new bus terminal in Old Kampala along Sir Apollo Kaggwa road. They have been operating at Namayiba bus park for more than five years.
However, the bus company maintained their office at Namayiba, which angered the other bus companies.
Joseph Opio, the assistant security manager of Namayiba bus terminal says that the management of the bus park has written to the Transport Licensing Board about the matter.
Opio says that the YY booking office should be closed since they relocated to their bus terminal.
He says that the presence of the office is confusing other passengers who access Namayiba.
Nelson Ssekandi, the operations manager Namayiba bus terminal said that after the second lockdown, the bus operators had a meeting and agreed on the procedures of loading passengers.
He explains that each bus company is supposed to load one bus at ago to give chance even to other companies. Ssekandi adds that the big bus companies were given a chance to load two buses.
Ssekandi says that they want YY bus company to remove the umbrellas outside the park and the staff around Namayiba bus terminal because they are confusing other passengers.
But Emmanuel Kampayane, the manager of operations at YY bus company says that they were forced to relocate to their bus terminal due to an unfair business environment.
There are over 50 bus companies in Namayiba bus terminal that ply different parts of the country.
