Bus operators, Local Government in talks

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | After three days of a bus strike that paralysed transport operations across the country, the bus operators and the Local Government reached an understanding to hold talks.

Bus operators were perturbed over KCCA’s decision to levy a Shs2.4m million park user fees which they considered very high.

Thousands of travelers were stranded at bus terminals across the country and taxi operators took advantage of the strike to hike transport fares. Erias Lukwago blasted the government for privatizing transport by selling off Uganda Transport Company. He also blamed KCCA for levying excessive fines on matatus.
