Buseruka sub-county gets piped water project worth shs1.2 billion

Hoima, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The government has embarked on the construction of a 1.2 billion Shillings mini piped water facility in Kyakaboga village, Buseruka sub county, Hoima district.

The project will jointly be implemented by the Ministry of Water and Environment and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development. Once complete, the system will serve more than 5,000 residents in the villages of Kyakaboga A, Kyakaboga B and other areas that have been battling with acute water shortage.

The contract for the construction of the mini piped water scheme has been awarded to Nahi Construction Company Limited with construction works  to begin this month. The construction works will take a period of six months.

Buseruka Sub county Councilor Geoffrey Komakech  says once finished, the piped water system will play a pivotal role of supplying residents in the area with clean and safe drinking water adding that for long residents have been sharing water sources with wild animals.

He states that due to severe water scarcity, a 20 litre jerrycan of water is sold at between 1,000 to 1,500 Shillings.

Pius Wakabi Rujumba, the Bugahya county Member of Parliament has challenged the residents and leaders in the sub county to jealously monitor and supervise the construction of the water project to ensure value for money is realized.

Alias Ukongo, a resident of Kyakaboga says for long they have been struggling with acute water shortage and that often share water sources with animals. Harry Adegi, another resident explains that, they trek between 8 to 10 kilometres in search for clean drinking water and hopes that the project will be a lifesaver.
