Buvuma, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Buvuma district Covid-19 Task force has received a boat to facilitate the transportation of essential health equipment and serve as an ambulance for referrals cases to the mainland thanks to the Buvuma County Member of Parliament, Robert Migadde.
The boat has capacity of carrying 20 passengers and its engine cost the legislator Shillings 15 million. Agnes Nabirye, the Buvuma District Covid-19 Task force chairperson and Resident District Commissioner says they have been facing challenges of responding to emergencies in distant islands that make up the district.
Buvuma district comprises 52 scattered islands. She says the situation worsened two weeks ago when UNRA diverted the Kiyindi-Buvuma ferry for emergency operations at Owen Falls dam.
The district has been hiring a private boat at about Shillings 500,000 to transport items from Kiyindi in Buikwe to Kirongo landing site in Buvuma district.
Robert Migadde, the Buvuma County MP said the boat can as well serve as an ambulance for his people.
Muhammad Mukwaya, the Buvuma Assistant District Health Officer-ADHO in Charge of Environmental Affairs notes that it has been challenging for them to access some islands where they picked up some Covid-19 suspects.
