Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen David Muhoozi, has tasked the newly promoted army officers to ensure they do not embarrass the Army and the country.
Gen Muhoozi, who was speaking at the piping ceremony of 33 Brigadiers and seven Major Generals at the ministry of defence headquarters in Mbuya, said that the new ranks come with new responsibilities. The army officers have been reminded that they must at all times conduct themselves in respect to their ranks while serving in the force and their families.
The seven Brigadier Generals promoted to Maj General include Muhanga Kayanja who is the joint intelligence coordinator for Kampala metropolitan, Francis Takirwa who is the deputy command UPDF division in Mbarara, Michael Ondoga who is the UPDF attaché in Saudi Arabia, Octavius Butuuro who is serving as deputy Commandant Senior Command and Staff College Kimaka.
Other new Major Generals include Dick Olum Prit who is a military attaché to DRC, David K Wakaalo one of the Operations Wealth Creation commanders and David Kyomukama Kasura who is the current director of the National Leadership Institute, Kyankwanzi.
Gen Muhoozi urged the officers to serve the Army, Uganda and President Yoweri Museveni who is the Commander in Chief with loyalty. For those who expected to be promoted but have not been considered, Gen Muhoozi rallied them not to be demoralized but to continue serving diligently because their time could come soon.
Maj Gen Olum, who has served for more than 30 years, urged Ugandans to stop describing them as a military force that is attached to an individual.
Brig Gen Agnes Musoke, who is the Director of Women Affairs, urged women serving the forces to always be patient. Having joined the army in 1982, Brig-Gen Musoke said she has gone through the ranks because of commitment, discipline and hard work.
The commander of Military Police Keith Katungi, commander of operations in Special Forces Command Fred Twinamatsiko and commander of Police Air Wing Ham Kaija have also been promoted to Brigadier General.
