Namutumba, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | George Tulilaba, the LC1 chairperson of Namukooge village, Mazuba sub-county, Namutumba district was killed and his body dumped outside a shrine in the neighboring Igelela village.
The deceased’s lifeless body was sighted by children who had gone to fetch water from a neighboring swamp.
They alerted local leaders who rushed to check on the lifeless body and alerted police authorities.
The deceased’s body was found with deep cuts on the neck. However, there were traces of blood, which raises suspicion that he could have been a victim of ritual sacrifice.
The operators of the shrine whose identities have been withheld by police have since fled into hiding.
Aggrey Mulowozo, a family member says that Tulilaba left for the usual evening social meetings with his colleagues in the trading center but did not return home.
“He left and did not return home, yet all his phones were switched off prompting us to physically search for him in the trading centre but he was not available. We resolved to alert the village security committee members, who informed us that Tulilaba had been killed outside a shrine,” he said.
Busoga East Region police spokesperson, Diana Nandawula confirmed the incident, saying investigations are underway.
