Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda Cranes attacking midfilder Allan Okello has joined Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC on a three-year contract.
According to Vipers SC, he is joining as a free agent having parted ways with Algerian side Paradou AC.
The left footed gem had joined Paradou AC football club in 2020 on a four-year contract from KCCA FC, but spent last season on loan at Lugogo.
He showcased his skills with eight assists and five goals in the Uganda Premier League last season.
On completing his move to Vipers, Okello said: “I am so happy to join Vipers Sports Club! I am so excited to be here at this big club and l didn’t have to think twice when Vipers called me, l just knew l wanted to sign for the club. I can’t wait to get started with the team.”
Now 23, the KCCA graduate rose to the limelight in 2017 as a 16-year-old and was immediately coded ‘the next big thing’ when he netted a hat-trick on his senior debut against Onduparaka FC.
Okello, who won the 2019 FUFA Male Player of the Year award, played 119 times for KCCA in the first stint where he scored 39 goals.
With them, he won two Uganda Premier League championships in the 2016/17 and 2018/19 campaigns respectively.
Sporting Director Charles Masembe said: “Okello arrives with experience of winning domestic titles and adds further quality and versatility to our attacking unit.”
Okello also won two Uganda Cups in the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons as well as the 2018 FUFA Super 8 Cup and the 2018/19 CECAFA Kagame Cup.
Among his individual accolades besides the 2019 MVP award, he also won the 2018 Airtel Fans Favorite player award, the 2018 Young Player of the Year and the 2019 Football256 Player of the Year award.
He joins in as the latest acquisition at Kitende after Grant Matsiko, Richard Matovu, Patrick Paul Mbowa, David Bagoole, Fumador Asiwome and Mohamed Salem Ekbad.
