Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Uganda Advertising Association held its inaugural Silverback Awards at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
The Silverback Awards were created to award star performance in the industry, engage industry stakeholders on best practices and devise solutions to improving industry standards under the theme The Future of Marketing and Advertising.
The awards highlighted the various categories in which advertising agencies competed in 16 categories to acquire recognition for outstanding work and excellence in service delivery in Uganda.
CoCREATE Advertising, a communication design firm, was the creative and communication partner of the Silverback Awards and was responsible for the ideation, design and development of the Silverback Awards brand identity, brand look and feel, the award, website, and communication plan & materials.
While speaking to us, Aheebwa Job, the Creative Lead at CoCREATE Advertising, reiterated that many people had been inquiring about why they decided to dub the creative and media excellence awards Silverback Awards.
“We coined the Silverback Awards in collaboration with Stella M. Khan, who was the UAA president at the time and Adonia Waibale a Member of the UAA Publicity Committee. We were inspired by the Silverback as it is a leader among the troops. Similarly, the Silverback like many creatives is aggressive, passionate, protective and daring. Just like the Silverback has a towering presence, the presence of award-deserving creatives in their respective troops is felt in every brainstorming & campaign. Furthermore, the Silverback is a nurturer of its troop, creative leaders are nurturers of ideas and young creatives,” said Aheebwa.
Speaking to the press during the Silverback Awards launch, Nicole Nyokabi the General Manager at CoCREATE said, “When UAA approached us with this baby that had no name, personality or home, we welcomed it with open arms. In close collaboration with UAA, CoCREATE developed an identity for the awards, from the name ‘Silverback Awards”, the logo, the brand look and feel, communication materials for both online and offline, and lastly, a beautiful and seamless website – www.silverbackawards.com where participants would easily make online submissions.”
Nyokabi congratulated the AD men and AD women on participating in this industry milestone and thanked UAA for allowing CoCREATE to leave a mark on the advertising industry.
Frank Muthusi, Chairman Uganda Advertising Association, thanked the agencies for participating in the Silverback Awards and applauded the partners for supporting the awards. Muthusi highlighted CoCREATE’s efforts in creating and executing the recognition, “CoCREATE Advertising has been our creative and communication partner for the awards. This team has truly left a mark – as their mantra goes- on the advertising industry. Their long hours and late nights that went into creating the concept of the Silverback Awards, designing the brand identity (the logo and the award itself), the website from scratch and managing it, and executing the digital strategy have truly been worthwhile. At Uganda Advertising Association, we are grateful to have such a dedicated and diligent partner like CoCREATE. Thank you, team.”
In addition, Adris Kamuli the Managing Director of MAAD McCann acknowledged the need for such a competition that recognizes and awards outstanding creatives. Mr. Kamuli, the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award said, “CoCREATE has done a fantastic, world-class and impressive job with the Silverback Awards.”
Joel Katabazi Managing Director & Creative Director, LiveWorks Inc. appreciated CoCREATE’s input in the Silverback Awards “Thank you for what you have done for the industry.” he said.
Based on the attendees’ feedback, the Silverback Awards delivered on their goal of charging up creatives to create more award-winning work.
