The Court of Appeal on Friday issued an interim order staying the implementation of High Court orders that had revoked the election process that made James Akena president of the Uganda People’s Congress party (UPC).
Deputy Chief Justice Steven Kavuma heard Akena’s application and restrained his rivals that include Joseph Bbosa, Prof. E Kakonge and Otto Imizza from interfering with Akena’s leadership and running of the party ‘s bank accounts both at Orient and Barclays Banks, until the main appeal is determined. In August 2016, High court Judge Yasin Nyanzi questioned the election of James Akena as UPC president and ordered for the party’s electoral body to organize fresh elections.
Justice Kavuma’s ruling was read by the Asst. Registrar Didas Muhumuza, confirming Akena as the president of the Uganda People’s Congress party until further directives from court.
