Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Buganda Road Magistrates Court has issued criminal summons to the Forum for Democratic Change’s Secretary for Mobilization Ingrid Turinawe who is wanted for being a common nuisance.
The Grade One Magistrate Stella Maris Amabilis issued the summons on Wednesday following the request of the State Prosecutor Miriam Njuki.
This was after the defence lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde had told Court that her client was reportedly arrested on Monday by Police on her way to Mandela National Stadium for a conference and she has since then been in custody.
Prosecution alleges that on August 4th, 2019 at Kampala Central Police Station, Turinawe annoyed and inconvenienced the public, which constitutes common nuisance.
Turinawe allegedly assaulted detective Sergeant Patrick Alunyu causing him actual bodily harm.
Turinawe had gone to visit six supporters of Dr Stella Nyanzi who were being held by police on charges of inciting violence.
They are, Simon Wanyera, Abdullah Waiswa, Augustine Ojobile, Joel Kabali, Fatumah Abilinabyo and Moses Katumba.
Prosecution alleges that the group while at Buganda Road Court incited court to do an act of violence against her worship Gladys Kamasanyu, a Magistrate at the same court whom they showed disrespect by abusing her.
The State further contends that the accused reportedly threw a bottle of mineral water at the same presiding magistrate.
Amabilis gave the State two days to amend the charges and draft them into the required lawful standards before hearing can commence.
