Court to rule Friday if Makerere should join Kato Lubwama case

Kampala High Court Judge Margret Oguli Oumo will on Friday give her ruling on whether Makerere University should be made a party in a case filed by a Rubaga South voter Habib Buwembo against his area MP Paul Kato Lubwama.

Buwembo wants Makerere University joined as a third respondent with Kato Lubwama and the Electoral Commission. He has filed an application seeking permission to file an election petition to oust Lubwama out of parliament for lack of requisite academic qualifications.

Through his lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde, Buwembo accuses Makerere of refusing to give him the necessary documents which are material to his case.

Buwembo wants Makerere University to avail him with policies regarding it’s  Mature Age entry examinations so as to establish whether Lubwama sat and passed these exams before being admitted for a Diploma in Music Dance and Drama in 1992.

However, Lubwama’s lawyer Asuman Basalirwa asked the judge to dismiss with costs Buwembo’s application on grounds that he never exhausted all provided avenues to access public information.
