Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The High Court in Kampala Thursday set a fresh trial date for a treason case against 20 men accused of plotting to overthrow the government of Uganda. The trial had stalled since October last year due to the Prosecutors’ strike that ended in December.
The suspects who are on remand at Luzira Prison appeared before Justice Wilson Masalu Musene and hearing of their case was fixed for February 19, 2018, Justice Musene warned DPP’s Thomas Jatiko to have his witnesses ready in court that date .
The suspects include Shiekh Multa Mudde Bukenya who was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for terrorising Muslim Clerics in Uganda, together with two brothers Amir Kinene and Hakim Kinene.
They are alleged to have contrived a plot to overthrow the government by force of arms, between January 2013 and June 2015 at various places in Uganda and outside including Dubai, Kenya and Tanzania. That they expressed the said plot through utterances , training and recruitment of rebels.
