Masindi, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Health officials in Masindi district are busy trying to trace for over 2,300 people believed to have come into close contact with a 29-year-old police detective attached to Masindi Central police station who tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19) last Saturday.
The police officer attached to Masindi central police station tested positive to the virus during the ongoing health ministry community survey. He has since been transferred to Hoima Regional Referral hospital COVID-19 treatment unit.
The situation compelled the police top management to replace all the 104 police officers that were manning the Masindi police station and they have since been put under quarantine at the police barracks together with their family members as a swift measure taken to combat the further spread of the pandemic.
Now Dr. Rogers Musinguzi, the Head of COVID-19 Case Management team in Masindi says they are currently tracing for 2300 people believed to have been in close contact with the patient before he was identified. These he says are within Masindi town and other areas within Masindi district.
He says the high risk people will be approached and brought to the isolation center while the rest could be monitored from their homes while in quarantine.
He says currently they have put 67 people under institutional quarantine at various places in the district. They include 28 at Masindi hospital, 34 at Masindi Army barracks and 5 at Kabalega secondary school.
Uganda now has 88 confirmed cases of COVID -19 of which 52 have been discharged from the various health facilities across the country where they have been undergoing treatment.
