Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda’s upcoming digital census promises not only to revolutionize data collection but also to create over 12,000 employment opportunities for Ugandan youth. The nationwide exercise, scheduled for 2024, will embrace digital technologies to gather crucial demographic and socio-economic information, aiming for increased accuracy and efficiency.
This initiative signifies a two-fold benefit for the nation. On one hand, it will provide the government with comprehensive data to inform policy decisions, resource allocation, and development planning. On the other hand, it will empower Ugandan youth by offering them valuable training and temporary employment opportunities.
The 12,000 youth will be recruited and trained to operate digital tablets, conduct household interviews, and assist with data collection and processing. This experience will equip them with valuable skills in technology, communication, and data analysis, enhancing their employability prospects in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
During the official launch on December 12, 2023, Dr. Albert Byamugisha, UBOS’s Board Chairperson, exuded confidence in conducting a census poised to uphold and bolster Uganda’s modernization goals in line with Vision 2040.
