Disregard rumor about collection of toll fees at Kampala-Entebbe Express Way – UNRA

Kampala, Uganda | Prossy Nansubuga | The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has disregarded rumours that have been circulating on various social media channels that its collecting toll fees from Ugandans to allow them access onto the Kampala-Entebbe expressway, saying they are false claims.

Various people have been saying that UNRA is charging Ugx 5000 to access the highway. However, UNRA says that collection of any fees hasn’t started and this misinformation should be declined until they have officially communicated.

An official communication will be made to this effect once the ongoing Tolling preparations are concluded; they tweeted.

Parliament in 2019 passed the Roads Bill 2018, which provides for the collection of road tolls on Uganda’s only toll road and the future toll roads that may be constructed.

The Expressway was a result of a $476 million loan from China’s Exim Bank which is payable over a 40- year period. However, since its commissioning in June 2018, the road has been accessed by users without paying toll fees.

UNRA is set to charge toll fees after preparations are concluded.
