Kitgum, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police is holding the secretary for sports and culture of Kitgum district Youth council over alleged murder.
The suspect identified as Denis Oroma, a resident of Pajimo Central in Pajimo parish, Labongo Akwang sub county, is alleged to have assaulted a local business man at Akwang trading Ccntre on Friday last week.
The councilor representing Labongo Akwang sub county, Bosco Oketa Yot says on the fateful day, the deceased identified as Mohammed Nyeko, a resident of Awach sub county in Gulu district was assaulted by the suspect while attending to his shop.
According to Oketa, the suspect is reported to have gone to the deceased’s shop to buy some cigarettes then a scuffle ensued after the deceased told Oroma that he doesn’t sell cigarettes.
It’s reported that the disagreement between the two led into to a fierce fist fight that saw Oroma punch the shop owner into comma before he was immediately rushed to Pajimo health centre III. Oketa says the deceased’s condition worsened and he was on Saturday transferred to Kitgum General Hospital that subsequently referred him to Mulago National Referral Hospital for a CT scan but unfortunately, he died on the way on Monday.
The Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson David Ongom Mudong says postmortem reports indicate that the deceased succumbed to internal bleeding and injuries sustained following a broken neck.
Mudong says the suspect is currently being held at Kitgum Central police station pending investigations, and charges of murder have been preferred against him as he waits being arraigned before the courts of law.
The Pajimo Central village LCI chairperson Lokungwa Oryema, condemned that incident saying the suspect has been a repeated offender who was recently summoned by his office over an assault case against a UPDF officer.
According to Oryema, Oroma reportedly got into a fist fight with the UPDF officer earlier this month breaking the soldier’s leg and has since eluded repeated summons in regards to the assault.
