Dokolo, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Oyam District Woman MP, Santa Sandra Alum Ogwang has been arrested by the Police over alleged voter bribery.
Alum, a member of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) was deployed by the party to supervise the voting in Adok Sub County. She was picked from Regorego Polling Station in Amwoma Sub County with two other supervisors, Oleko Jennifer Opio and Vicky Atim.
The Dokolo District Police Commander, Patience Banganzi says that the MP was found in possession of money at the polling station. Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesman says the MP and her co-accused are recording statements at Dokolo CPS.
Jimmy James Akena, the UPC Party President says that the arrest of Alum and the supervisors is meant to intimidate the agents of the party candidate Sarah Aguti Nyangkori.
In Angai Polling Station, Kangai Town Council, the Police arrested two men and impounded their vehicle- a Toyota Harrier registration number UBD 614W after they were allegedly found with pre-ticked ballot papers.
They are Patrick Olum and Malaki Onyanga who were reportedly trailed by the police and the UPC Party President, Jimmy Akena. They were also found in possession of large sums of money in denominations of 1,000 shillings, two pangas and a portrait of an independent candidate, Rebecca Arao.
