Double joy for Mehta club’s golf ace Nsubuga

Namulonge, Uganda | PHILLIP CORRY |  Mehta Golf Club’s Godfrey Nsubuga claimed two golf crowns in one weekend, claiming the Equity Namulonge Open a day after winning the Kakira Open.

Nsubuga claimed the second edition of the Namulonge Open on sudden death play off on Hole 9 on Saturday, after returning to the club house with similar scores with club member Joseph Kakooza.

The two golfers then went to a play-off, that Nsubuga won by hitting a par and Kakooza bogeying the hole. Kakooza and Joseph Kasozi settled for second and third position with 144 and 149 respectively.

Earlier Nsubuga had claimed the Kakira Open, as he capped a great year on the courses across the country.

Nsubuga has this year claimed the Lira Open, Mbale Open twice and now the Namulonge Open.

“I want to thank God and Equity for this victory it comes at the same time of also winning the Kakira Open. I like to thank the sponsors Equity Bank and the others together with Mary Louis Simkins Golf Club management for a beautiful course they gave us,” he said.

” I also thank all the players who played together with my club for giving me this opportunity of playing,” Nsubuga said in his winning speech.

Joram Tumwine and Edrae Kagombe claimed the Men and Ladies Senior awards.

Kakira win

Nsubuga, fresh from a 4th place finish at the recent Uganda Open, carded 2 under par 70 as he claimed the Kakira Open by 1 stroke on Friday.

Michael Tumusiime, from Entebbe Club finished runner up with a score of 1 under par 70 while Jinja Club’s Sande Lulet played level par 72 to finish third.

The Uganda Golf Union event attracted golfers from Jinja Club, Entebbe, Lugazi, Mbarara, Kabale, Lira, West Nile, Toro, Tororo, Kampala. It’s a World Amateur Golf Ranking event.

The Professionals category was won by Rodel Gaita Kisembo, win on a sudden play off on Hole 18 with Silver Opio and Deo Akope after each had tied with 140 gross over 36 holes.

The tournament was sponsored by Kakira Sugar and Suzuki Uganda.
