Opposition Democratic Party has demanded Police to return sixty five million shillings of seventy million shillings alleged given to them by Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) for security during the Zambia and Uganda foiled nation qualifier on 13th October.
The party Spokesperson Jude Mbabali said during their weekly press conference on Tuesday in Kampala that they found out that over 4500 police men deployed each received sh11000 which amounts to sh4.95m and more than 65 million shillings has never been accounted for.
“We have carried out several investigations and found out the Police deployed at least 4500 Police officers in Namboole for security and each received sh11,000 which add up to 4.95million shillings. We are a party of the rule of law and the Police act is very clear that the service shall be free of charge.” He said
Mbabali added that the 70 million asked by Police should have come from the Police coffers instead of the public because Police gets money from the government.
“I think these are tricks to swindle people’s money we are going to court if the Police don’t refund the money, we challenge the acts of extortion” he added
On Monday 22nd Oct Police in the weekly press conference at Central Police Station(CPS), Kampala Metropolitan police Spokesperson Idi Bin Ssenkumbi said that Police does not extort money from the public but asks for small allowances to cater for small items like water.
Meanwhile DP announced Friday 26 as a day of commemorating Benedict Kiwanuka in 50 years since Uganda got independence with a memorial lecture at 2:30Pm at Imperial Royale Hotel sponsored by foundation for African Development (FAD) and Democratic Party and the guest Speaker will be the Principal Judge Justice James Ogoola.
