Opposition Democratic Party has vowed to sue the army Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima for intimidation.
DP says Aronda’s remarks over the recent comments about a possible military coup were threatening to the country’s peace.
According to Kenneth Paul Kakande the acting Publicity Secretary, DP through Luwero Woman MP Brenda Nabukenya will sue the army chief for intimidating the parliament and threatening the public.
DP says Nabukenya comes from where the 1980 gorilla war started and quoted Aronda’s remarks as treason Contrary to Section 23 (1) (c) of the Penal Code Act Cap 120 Laws of Uganda.
While addressing the press this Tuesday in Kampala, Kakande shared the petition through Alaka and Co advocates by Nabukenya and it partly read as follows, “…..in view of the said debate, on Wednesday the 23rd Day of January 2013, General Aronda Nyakairima, the Chief of defense Forces and Representative of the Armed forces to the Parliament, was reported and I indeed heard over the radio that while addressing a press conference, at Mbuya General Military Head quarters, he made statements to the effect that parliament is not serious and that if Parliament did not change course, then the Military is going to take charge of the affairs of government….”
Kakande said that they will not allow the Directorate of Public Prosecution to take over case or else they will seek advice from the constitutional court.
