The Democratic Party (DP) has asked Prime minister Amama Mbabazi to resign over the loss of more than Shs 15 billion in his office, party officials said at press conference in Kampala on Oct. 30.
Jude Mbabali, the party spokesperson said Mbabazi should be liable for what is happening in his office because he has been involved in many scandals for many years.
“There have been overwhelming reports about him [Mbabazi] which means he has to resign,” Mbabali said.
Mbabali called upon the police, and the office of the Inspector General of Government to investigate the matter and ensure all officials related to the scam are treated lawfully.
Mbabazi reportedly told reporters at a news conference in Kampala that a good number of officials from his office, the ministry of finance and the Bank of Uganda who got involved in the scam have been sent to jail and the law will take its course.
The party advised the Permanent Secretary, Pius Bigirimana to resign because he is the accounting officer. But reports say, Bigirimana was cleared and there was no evidence linking him to the loss of the money.
