At 69 years old, Dr. Ezra Suruma has ascended to the top seat of Makerere University as its new Chancellor. Dr. Suruma will replace Prof. Mondo Kangonyera whose term in office ended this year. The Senior Adviser to the President on Finance and Economic Planning will preside over all ceremonial functions at the University and also confer degrees. He becomes the third non-head of state Chancellor of the University, the first one having been Prof. Apollo Nsibambi.
With a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics, Dr. Suruma has served in different capacities. In 2005, he was appointed the Ugandan Finance Minister a position he held until February 2009. He hails from Kabale District and is also a proud holder of a Masters Degree in Computer Science and in International Banking.
