According to the electoral roadmap, the general update of the voters’ register was scheduled to end tomorrow April 30 but the Electoral Commission (EC) has today announced the extension of the exercise to May 04th saying that many people have not yet visited their respective parishes to check out their details.
The exercise that kicked off on April 07 was intended to track details of those who never registered during the National Identity Card programme.
Speaking to journalists at the EC headquarters, Eng. Badru Kiggundu chairperson of the EC said the data verified and collected during the extended exercise will be used to update the register for presidential, parliamentary and local government council elections, youth council committees, UPDF register for election of representatives to parliament and workers’ register among others.
However, the extension has affected some of the activities on the roadmap like the display of the national voters’ register to June 30 and nomination of candidates for village youth and older persons’ elections which are to start on July 03 and end on July 14.
