Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Leading events organizer Evolve Africa has released its annual Uganda Marketing Excellence Awards (UMEAS) 2023 report, offering a data-driven analysis of the Ugandan marketing landscape. This report, presented as a valuable resource for marketers, strategists, and decision-makers, delves into the “why” behind successful campaigns and trends within the industry.

The establishment acknowledges the transformative power of data-driven insights and believes that behind every great marketing initiative lies a wealth of data waiting to be harnessed, understood, and applied.

It’s against that background that Evolve Africa found it imperative to present a data-driven industry document on how the Ugandan marketing sector faired in the year 2023.

Evolve Africa shared their findings about the UMEAS which is a representation of the Ugandan marketing sector for the year 2023 in a well-prepared report that they believe will be ‘a source of knowledge and inspiration,’ and will serve as a guide for marketers, strategists, and decision-makers to navigate the ever-evolving field of marketing.

According to John-Paul Okwi, the president of a six-member jury that comprises renowned industry Marketing professionals, who presided over the UMEAS 2022/2023, over 250 campaign assets that participated in UMEAS 2023 were evaluated to uncover the ‘why’ behind what worked.

“The results reinforce what we know about the brilliance of UMEAS winners; they are strong at cutting through clutter, creating memories for the brands, and setting the brands apart in people’s minds,” Okwi said.

The distinguished jury includes; Dr. Benedict Mugerwa, the Center Head of Professional Courses at the Uganda Management Institute (UMI), Ngulumi Immaculate Nabatte, CMO at Centenary Bank, John Paul Okwi, manager events and sponsorships at MTN Uganda, Rogers Anguzu, commercial director at Crown Beverages Limited, Barbara Arimi, head of marketing and communications at NSSF and Jackie Namara, CEO of Iguru Consult Limited

Okwi emphasized that the Jury evaluation was only subject to the information received for the UMEAS 2023, whose submissions were informed by a criterion communicated before and during the submission period.

The judging criteria was as follows; Alignment to overall marketing and corporate strategy detailing all marketing objectives, sharing of market insights that informed campaign execution or product/process service developed, execution with mechanics & budgets and finally impact measurement.

According to Shafic Ssemakula, the Co-founder of Evolve Africa, the team deeply studied and analysed the data and insights gathered from the entrants and winners of the 2023 UMEAS, to come up with a report.

Ssemakula added that the report will help everyone that reads it to join the marketing fraternity in a quest to understand, not just what worked, but why and how it worked.

“Evolve Africa would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the UMEAS community of marketers, brands and agencies for their invaluable contributions, the entrants’ willingness to share their works, and the winners’ remarkable achievements. Special appreciation also goes to the diligent UMEAS jury who poured their expertise into bringing this report to life.
