Jinja, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police in Kiira region is investigating circumstances under which Asuman Malinga, a former special police constable-SPC, received a khaki envelope containing one bullet for an AK-47 riffle, a cartridge and two threatening leaflets.

Malinga, a resident of Buyengo town council in Jinja district is reported to have received the envelop from his neighbor, Aidah Nangobi on Friday morning.

One of the leaflets accused Malinga of committing crimes in Mayuge and fleeing to Jinja district as a cover up for his past grievous dealings.

Nangobi claims that a woman who was traveling on a motorcycle delivered the envelope to her shop before speeding off.

“A woman who had veiled herself reached out to me, she tasked me to deliver this envelope to Malinga, whom I know very well, and I didn’t hesitate to accord her the assistance of delivering the package since she claimed to be in a hurry,” she says.

Malinga denies having knowledge of anyone who could be masterminding evil plans against his life.

“I rushed to police after opening this package, since I have no idea of anyone who would be plotting to kill me,” he says. “We even attempted to pursue the woman who reportedly delivered this package but it was too late and she could not be traced.”

Kiira region police spokesperson James Mubi confirms the incident adding that the recovered items have been registered as exhibits at Buwenge central police station.

Mubi adds that police has since teamed up with sister agencies to ascertain the source of the bullet and the reasons behind the suspects decision to deliver such items to Malinga.
