FA Community Shield: GOtv focus on Amad Diallo

Amad Diallo leading a new crop of youngsters at United

London, UK | THE INDEPENDENT | Ivorian forward Amad Diallo gets another opportunity to shine in the FA Community Shield against their bitter rivals Manchester City. GOtv will broadcast Saturday’s season opener.

Diallo was instrumental in helping Manchester United at the quarter final stage of the FA Cup, which ultimately led to them winning the trophy at the end of the season.

He has been tipped to have a great breakout season because his preseason numbers have been impressive. The forward has scored twice in the four games he’s played and is playing with confidence as he seems to have secured himself a spot in Manchester United’s right-wing position.

As young as he is, Diallo has made a commitment to the Red Devils and does not see himself playing for any other team now. “I’m very happy here. I think everyone is happy with me because I smile with everyone and have good energy. Why not stay here all my life?” said the 22-year-old. “I am so excited. I believe in the manager. I know last season I didn’t play a lot, but this season is going to be a good season for everyone.”

Competition is tight at Old Trafford and only a few players have been able to impress Erik ten Hag for regular starting positions. Diallo had a disappointing start to the season last time out, after he picked up a serious injury during preseason and only made his return to competitive football in December.

When he made his return to the fold, he seemed to have recovered well and would feature from time to time. He made his mark in the 2023/24 FA Cup quarter final against Liverpool, where he scored the winning goal just at the very end of extra time as his team defeated their bitter rivals 4-3 and got the bragging rights.

“That goal was the most important goal of my life. I was very happy to score that goal. Even now, I can’t believe it,” said Diallo. “I was confident and at the end the manager started to believe in me and play me a lot.”

Will Diallo get a chance to play in the Community Shield?
