Luweero, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Four family members of a truck driver who tested positive for COVID-19 have been quarantined in Luweero District.
A Ugandan truck driver was intercepted in Gulu early this week heading back to South Sudan after testing positive for COVID- 19 at Elegu border post.
It later emerged the truck driver spent a night at his home located at Katikamu Proper zone in Wobulenzi town council, Luweero district.
Henry Kasule the Luweero District Health Surveillance Focal Person explains that on Thursday they received information from the National Surveillance Team that the positive truck driver spent the night at home on return in Uganda from South Sudan.
Kasule explains that the four family members and other eleven contacts were tested before the samples were sent to the Uganda Virus Research Institute to confirm their status.
Kasule says that on Friday the four family members were transferred to District Quarantine centre at Nyimbwa Health Center where they will live for 14 days as they are being assessed.
Kasule notes that other eleven contacts have been quarantined in their homes. He adds that they are searching for the turn boy who also travelled in the same vehicle with the driver.
The family members include the wife of the driver and three children aged 3, 11 and 16.
On Thursday night, Police in Luweero intercepted another Coronavirus (COVID-19) positive truck driver and a female friend. The driver was on his way to Elegu border in Amuru district.
The driver was transferred to an isolation facility at Mulago Hospital for treatment and his friend to an institutional Quarantine where she will spend 14 days.
Uganda has so far registered 203 confirmed cases of COVID-19 cases and 63 cases have recovered.
According to the Ministry of Health, at least 657 people are under institutional quarantine.
