Father sues Rubaga primary school over defilement of daughter
Kampala, Uganda | GODFREY SSALI | Abbas Aligaweesa wants the High Court in Kampala to issue orders compelling Red Rock Junior School in Rubaga, Kampala to pay him over 100 million shillings as compensation for medical expenses he met at Rubaga Hospital, and damages for violating the minor’s dignity.
Court records show that a 42-year-old teacher Vincent Bisigirwa was detained for sexually abusing Aligaweesa’s 11-year-old daughter, a pupil at school between May and July this year. The girl reportedly confided in the head girl who also informed the matron.
Her father says he enrolled his daughter currently in primary six in the boarding section of Red Rock Junior school and completely placed her under the care of the school’s administration.
However, he was surprised to be called by the school and told of what had befallen his daughter following the arrest of the said teacher by police.
Bisigirwa is on remand at Luzira Prison on charges of aggravated defilement.
The father also wants court to declare that Red Rock Junior primary school failed in its duty of care it owed his daughter.
The court’s Deputy Registrar in charge of Civil Matters, Sarah Langa has issued summons giving the school 15 days to file a defence.
