Kasese, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President, Patrick Amuriat Oboi, has criticized the NRM government, led by President Yoweri Museveni, for its lack of commitment to fulfilling political pledges.

Speaking in Kasese on Saturday during the launch of the party’s E-Registration exercise in the district, Amuriat held President Museveni and the NRM government accountable for the downfall of significant economic ventures in Kasese, such as salt extraction in Katwe-Kabatoro and copper mining in Kilembe.

Amuriat accused President Museveni of having no political will to meet his promises, such as upgrading Kasese airfield. He argued that these pledges have been used as political tools to win votes but have never appeared in the national budget. “Museveni will never develop this airfield. You must raise and tell Museveni that without fulfilling his pledges, there are no votes for him here,” Amuriat said.

Amuriat also criticized the government for failing to hold top officials implicated in corruption scandals accountable. He urged the youth across the country to rise and change the course of governance, stating that the government has no plan to uplift the economic standards of Ugandans.

Both the FDC President and the Party General Secretary, Nandala Mafabi, emphasized the party’s willingness to reconcile with individuals and groups who have left. Jonathan Ebwalu, the Member of Parliament for Soroti City West Division in Teso, urged the community of Kasese to demand the fulfillment of government pledges, arguing that the current government only responds under pressure.

Isiah Ssasaga, the MP for Budadiri East constituency, declared that the FDC’s struggle to reclaim its top political position in the country had begun. He urged members to mobilize more people towards the ongoing registration.

Ronald Kabuku, the Kasese FDC Party Chairperson, stated that the district team was ready to mobilize new support for the party and reclaim key seats lost to the NRM in the last elections.

The Kasese community has been seeking the government, particularly President Museveni, to honor key pledges made over the last election cycles. These include upgrading Kasese Airfield to an international airport, revamping Kilembe Mines and Katwe Salt Factory, and addressing the land issues in the district.
