FDC to hold National Council meeting next week

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT |  The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has confirmed it is organizing a National Council on 15th December 2023.

This shall be the first National Council to sit since the party split, with a break off faction setting base at Katonga and electing what they said was a parallel interim leadership.

Addressing the press at the party’s Najjanankumbi office, spokesperson John Kikonyogo said they would be convening a National Council next week under the head of the National Chairman Jack Sabiiti.

“And it will among other things deliberate on the state of the party and the way forward. The purpose of the council is to make some very important decisions which I cannot enumerate here,” said Kikonyogo.

The FDC National Council consists of the party district chairpersons, all National Executive Committee Members, Members of Parliament, three Members representing Elders Council and three Members representing the Youth league.

Other members of the council are three members representing the Women League, one flag bearer representing Parliamentary seat flag bearers of each sub region who were unsuccessful in the general elections, all Elected Local Government District, Chairpersons and Mayors.
The party Constitution mandates the national council to receive reports from NEC, act for and on behalf of the National Delegates Conference as and when the conference so directs, generate the policy for consideration by the National Delegates Conference and approve the Party Budget.

The council is also mandated to supervise and direct the work of NEC and other National Party Organs and approve appointments as provided in this Constitution and fill vacant positions on recommendations of the National Executive Committee.

Kikonyogo further informed journalists that the party Secretary General Nathan Nandala Mafabi and the president Patrick Oboi Amuriat traveled to the United States to attend the party’s Annual Delegates Summit, meet with donors, partners and also revamp FDC Chapters in North America. He says the duo shall return to the country next week to attend the national council.

But as they look forward to the National Council, Kikonyogo says they are conducting induction for their newly elected leaders, training them on mobilization skills and recruitment of potential flag bearers.
